The following is a beautiful letter that Gertie Lee (Satterfield) Smith wrote to her children and grandchildren:

----------------------------------------
This is to my children and grandchildren.

Well I am leaving you dear children now and I am asking you all not to be sad and promised that I would wait and watch for you all to join me. I said full well do I know dear ones how sad you may be when you come to realize that your mother and grandmother is no more to meet you in this life but I beg of you not to mourn and may your hearts not be saddened for I who have lived and loved you so much have passed on to be with the risen Lord and Savior where there is no more sorrow and tears and where farewells are never spoken and I will be watching and waiting for each one of you dear ones to meet me in glory. I will be expecting you all in that heavenly home so just be happy in your thoughts that I am safely home after the storms of life and the tempest of many struggles and cares. I am most glad to meet my master and lord when he calls. Just cast your burdens and let him have his way in your life and lean on the everlasting arms. The time won’t be long. Soon we will all be reunited on the other shore with our robes washed white in the blood of the lamb. Of this world’s good, I have very little as you know but I leave you this legacy of my love. Now I commit you dear children and grandchildren to the Lord who can and will guide you with His light and love to the heavenly home. This legacy must been why when my savior called me and I was slipping out of my tired and worn body, my spirit could be so triumphant that it imprinted an expression of radiant joy and fulfillment on the lifeless features. This is my letter I leaving to all of my children, grandchildren and in-laws together. I count my in-laws as my children too. I love them just like my children so I will say I do love all my grandchildren and great grandchildren, so I am hoping to meet all of you up above. So we all can be happy together. Good bye to all.
