Floyd Nathan Swanner, 81, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008, at his home. Born in Washington, N.C., to the late Jesse and Lydia Swanner, Mr. Swanner was a retired tool maker, Shop 06, Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a 50- year member of the Bayside Masonic Lodge No. 218 and a member of Bayside Baptist Church for more than 40 years. He was active in Jobs Daughters in the early 70s. Mr. Swanner was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was loved by all and touched everyone. Mr. Swanner was predeceased by his first wife of 53 years, Frances, and second wife Benona "Syl" Swanner. Survivors include two daughters, Gail Swanner of Virginia Beach and Sandy Betor and husband Danny of Norfolk; a son, John Swanner and wife Brenda of Chesapeake; two sisters, Lianae Brothers and Vera Forehand, both of Waynesboro, Va.; two brothers, Clarence Swanner of Virginia Beach and Henry Swanner of The Villages, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Janice Pratt, Julie Attanucci, Adrienne Rousseau, Alex Swanner, Amber Swanner, Freddy Betor, and Daniel Betor; and nine great-grandchildren, Callie, Walton, Matthew, Vincent, Joseph, Jaci, Brianna, Daniel IV and Graydon. He was also predeceased by a daughter, JoAnne Helton. A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Rosewood Memorial Park with the Rev. Mark Pullen officiating. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, from 7 to 9 p.m. today. Memorial donations may be made to Chesapeake Beach Volunteer Fire and Rescue, 2444 Pleasure House Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23455. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
