He leaves a devoted family to cherish his memory: his wife, Elizabeth ``Beth'' Swanner; and two daughters, Kay S. Morris and Kathy R. Brothers. He was predeceased by a daughter, Carol S. Reid.
He is also survived by his brothers, Henry, Floyd and Clarence; three sisters, Pauline Lewis, Vera Forerhand and Lianae Brothers; six grandchildren, Robin, Scott, Tamar, Boaz, Belinda and Randy; and four great-grandchildren, Zachary, Samantha, Caitlin and Tyler.
He enjoyed all things in life and a couple of his favorite pastime activities were bowling and being an avid NASCAR fan.
Mr. Swanner was a devoted employee of Virginia Natural Gas Co., retiring as a construction supervisor after 35 years of service. His devotion to his church was also of great importance to him serving as a past elder and Sunday School superintendent as a member of The Church of Christ at Creeds.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Kellum Funeral Home, Rosewood Chapel. A funeral will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park. Please visit the online memorial to Ishmael at www.mem.com.
