Thomas Wiley Avara, 85, passed away Saturday February 8, 2003, at his son's home in Anderson, Texas, Tom was formerly of Dickinson and La Marque. Mr, Avara was born August 25, 1917 in Leon County, Texas. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and became a barber in 1937. He resided most of his life
in Galveston County. He is survived by two sons, Thomas Wayne Avara and wife, Julia, of Anderson, Texas, and .Jerry Ray Avara and wife, Phylis, of Channelview, Texas; three sisters, Linda Plitt and husband, Edward, Ruth Reid Konzack and Alice Werner, all of La Marque;sister-in law Jean Avara os Sante Fe, five grandchildren, Skipper Avara, Cathy Jo McAdams, John Avara, Jamie and Tisha Avara, all of Houston; eight great-grandchildren; and his life long friend; Evan Moore, of Flo, Texas, Visitation will be held Monday from 5:00 p.m., to 8:00 p.m., at the James
Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque; Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M., Tuesday
February 11, 2003, in the chapel of the funeral home, with Rev. Sharon Sabom.
Burial will follow at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery, Hitchcock, Texas,
Pallbearers will be Skipper Avara, John Avara, Billy Scogins and Leon Moore.
