SANTA FE — Mr. Emniett H. Avara passed from this life Thursday morning at his residence.

Born October 20, 1923, in Buffalo, Texas, Mr. Avara had been a resident of Santa Fe since 1972, previously of Hitchcock. He had been an optician since 1948, retiring from Bellfort Optical Company in 1986, after 20 years of service, and had served in the US Army during WW II.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Avara of Santa Fe; daughter, Jeanette Avara, Santa Fe; brother, Tom Avara,; Dickinson; sisters, Linda Plitt and Ruth Reid both of La Marque, Alice Werner, Texas City; and grandson, Cody Burris, Santa Fe.

Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. today in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, Pastor Alan Splawn officiating. Interment will follow at Grace Memorial Park Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Gilbert Bills, Tommy Holder, David Plitt, Donald Plitt, Larry Reid and Bill Werner.
