After high school, Wayne enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served for four years before being honorably discharged to the Army Reserves. After leaving the military, he went on to work as an Instrument Technician for El Paso Natural Gas. He worked for EPNG for thirty-five years until his retirement. Wayne was well respected in the oil and gas industry. Many of his co-workers became lifelong friends.
Wayne had a passion for metal work. He could build anything. He created art for churches and can also be seen on the Eastland County News building. He enjoyed creating praying cowboys, crosses and other art to celebrate God. Wayne was a member of Christian Church in San Angelo and often led hymns at Coyanosa Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing and spending time at the lake house watching his grandchildren swim. Wayne had a big heart. He was kind, sensitive and thoughtful. He will forever be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; and ten siblings. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of sixty-one years Helen Hennington; son Michael Wayne Hennington and wife Jeannie; grandsons Nathaniel Wayne Hennington, Cody Weir and wife Evin; granddaughters Autumn Evetts and husband Colt, Courtney Douzat and fiancé James; great-grandchildren Greyson, Noah, Josie, Adylynn, Archer, Luke and Kallum; sisters Lorene Blanton, Pat Purvis and husband Hardy. In addition, he leaves behind numerous other loving family members and friends.
Friends are invited to visit with the family 5-8 PM, Monday, October 3, 2022 in the chapel at Shaffer Funeral Home 1939 Sherwood Way San Angelo, Texas 76901. Funeral services will be held the following day, 10 AM, October 4, 2022 at Shaffer Funeral Home. Burial and committal with military honors will follow at 3 PM at Oakwood Cemetery in Cisco, Texas.
