Mary Bernice Witherspoon born October 10, 1918 in Baxter County, Arkansas, died in Bakersfield, CA on December 6, 2007, at the age of 89. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Witherspoon; son, Bob Witherspoon; grandson, Brad Finch; mother, Sarah Tommie Mansfield; father, Bud Mansfield; and eight brothers and sisters. She married Earl in Kansas City Missouri in 1935. They had three children. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lynda and Tom Finch; daughter, Donna Kelly; grandson and wife, Jeff and Joan Finch; grandson and wife, Mike and Tracy Finch; grandson and wife, Kevin and Samantha Kelly; granddaughter, Meri Lynn; granddaughter and husband, Teri and Alan Graves; granddaughter, Tammy Witherspoon; fourteen great- grandchildren and one great-great- grandchild. Bernice and Earl moved to Lexington Kentucky in 1949 and lived there with their family until 1960. She was a homemaker for years. The family moved to Delano, California where Bernice resided for forty one years. She was an active member of the Delano First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed working on receptions and other activities at the church. She also worked for J.C. Penny and Delano Hardware. She loved art in any form. Cooking, flower arranging, and sewing were her favorite hobbies. In the last six years she has lived in Bakersfield, where she resided at Columbus Estates and Parkview Julian Nursing Home. A special thank you to the staff of Parkview Julian Nursing Home, Hoffmann Hospice, and the First United Methodist Church of Delano for their loving care and comfort. There will be graveside services held at Hillcrest Cemetery, 9101 Kern Canyon Road on Thursday, December 13th, at 10:30 a.m. She will be laid to rest close to her grandson, Thomas Bradley Finch. Viewing will be Wednesday, December 12th at Hillcrest Cemetery after 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family ask that you make donations to the First United Methodist Church, 1002 Eleventh Avenue, Delano, California, 93215.
