The death of Christopher Smart, a well known and highly respected resident of this city, occurred this morning after an illness of seven weeks duration.
Mr. Smart was born in this city February 22, 1856, the son of George A. and Lydia (Nutter) Smart. He was educated in the public schools of this city after which he served for thirteen years as a clerk in the hardware stores. In 1885 he established the meat and provision at No. 24 Pleasant street, known as the Chicago Meat Company and successfully conducted the same for many years.
Mr. Smart was a straight forward upright business man who earned and retained the esteem of all with whom he came in contact. He was devoted to his home and family and his loss is keenly felt. He is survived by one daughter, Beatrice Sawyer; one son Roland Smart, both of this city; two grandsons, Bradleigh Smart of Los Angeles, Cal., and Donald Sawyer of this city; also two sisters, Mrs. Clifford Woodbury and Miss Maria Smart, both of this city.
