PHOTO OBITUARY

A. P. Kinkade, who, for the past year or more, had been suffering with consumption, died last Wednesday, and was buried Thursday afternoon by the Grand Army Post of this city, of which he was a comrade. W. M. Vanhorn preached an impressive sermon at the residence of the deceased, after which the remains were conveyed to the cemetery followed by a large number of sympathizing friends of the family. The deceased leaves a wife and an interesting family of children, who have the hearfelt (sic) sympathy of the community in their hour of sorrow.

Notes: In the 1889 Kansas, U.S., Enrollment of Civil War Veterans, Susana Kinkade noted his death on December 28, 1887, in Galena, that at the time of his discharge he was a 2nd LT. in Company B of the 35th Kentucky Infantry, that he had been wounded, that she was dependent on her son, and that her husband's death orphaned 2 children under the age of 16, Samuel age 13, and Bell age 11.

In the Frank P. Blair G.A.R. Post record of March 31, 1885, his service was noted: He was a 45-year-old native of Hardin County, Kentucky, was living in Galena and working as a miner, his entry into service was June 16, 1863, as a Private in the 35 KY Inf., and his discharge was as a Sergeant in the same unit on December 29, 1864, at the expiration of his term.

The official name of his unit was the Thirty-Fifth Mounted Infantry, Company B, which served for the Union.

In the March 1885 Kansas census, the family unit was noted as A. P., Susan, A. Lincoln, B.E., Legan W., Clay, Sarah, Samuel and Bell. A. P., Lincoln, and Legan were working as miners, the first all born in Kentucky, Clay and Sarah born in Kansas, and Samuel and Bell born in Missouri.
