Isaiah was quite young when he came to Lee County with his father, George Frederick Stainbrook. He worked by the month on a farm in Lee County until 1860. Went to Princeton, Bureau County and was employed on a farm there for two years. Returned to Lee County and invested his money on a quarter section of excellent farm land in Viola Township, where he resided for nearly thirty years.
Served in the Civil War as a member of the 153 Regiment of Illinois Volunteers -Company F. Enrolled on 18 February 1865 in Chicago. Was mustered in 27 February in Chicago. He was described as a farmer, 31 years old, born Crawford Co., Pennsylvania, 5'10", dark hair, grey eyes, dark complexion. Mustered out 21 September 1865.
Isaiah spent the better part of his life as a farmer and was a much respected citizen of Lee County.
He was sitting in a chair at home when he died suddenly. He was known to be afflicted with heart disease.
