Mrs. Cooksey
Funeral services for Mrs. R. L. (Ivy) Cooksey, 86, of Rt. 1, Elkhart, who died Sunday, will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Church of Christ, Elkhart, with Joe Gay, Don Cooksey and Joe Davis officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories, Elkhart.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Cooksey, the former Mary Ivy Womack, was born March 1, 1882 in Weches, Houston County, to the late John Womack and Mrs. Fannie Bobbitt Womack. She was reared in Weches, and had been resident of Elkhart for the past 24 years. Member of the Church of Christ, Elkhart, she died Sunday at 9:30 p.m. in a Palestine nursing home following an illness of several months. She was the widow of Robert Lee Cooksey, who died May 29, 1956.
Survivors include eight sons and one foster son: John Thomas Cooksey of Lovelady, Charles, Frank and Albert, all of Elkhart, Archie Cooksey of Portland, Oregon, Hubert and Woodrow Cooksey, both of Chandler, and Joe W. Shifflett of Port Neches; two daughters, Mrs. Annie Mae Cook of Chandler and Mrs. Fannie Campo of Portland, Ore.; two brothers, Hall Womack and John Robert Womack, both of Weches; three sisters, Mrs. Frankie Rogers of Palestine, Mrs. Rosa Swearingen and Mrs. Dollie Ewing, both of Corsicana; 53 grandchildren; 100 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The body will be at the residence in Elkhart until carried to the church.
