On November 12, 1925 Dorothy Ungersma married in Manhattan, Gallatin County, Montana, the eight years older William Broekema Jr. He died in 1958 in Los Angeles and she remarried Peter (Pete) Smit, who was also widowed.

Dora died in December 1986 at the age of 81 years in the northwestern part of Washington, in Whatcom County, where quite a lot "Dutchies" moved to in and after the 1930s.
