Richard Wallace “Joe” Gleim, Sr., 79, of Hummelstown, passed away Sunday, November 4, 2012, in the Community General Osteopathic Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Harrisburg on October 14, 1933, he was the son of the late Quentin A. and Mary Elizabeth Alverta Doner Gleim.
Joe retired after 40 years as a foreman for UGI Corporation. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Hummelstown. Joe loved watching football and was an avid NASCAR fan. He especially loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Barbara J. Fors Gleim, whom he married on September 12, 1953; a daughter, Barbara S. Forney wife of George D. of Pottsville; a son, Richard W. Gleim, Jr. husband of Sandy L. of LaPorte, IN; 6 grandchildren, Jennifer Daubert wife of Jay, Michelle Heenan wife of Tom, and Scott Forney all of Pottsville, Jodie Oswald wife of Jeremy of Middleport, Brian Forney husband of Abby of Schuylkill Haven, and Crystal Leidy of Columbia, SC; 8 great grandchildren, Ty, Hayden and Jackson Daubert, Samantha Heenan, Chase, Austin, and Colton Oswald, and Elle Forney; two brothers, Rev. Elmer Gleim husband of Ruth of York, James Gleim husband of Eldora of Shippensburg, and Guy Merle Gleim of Harrisburg; two sisters, Ruth Koch of Harrisburg and Helen Wilson wife of Ronald of Carlisle; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by 5 brothers, Norman Gleim, Paul Gleim, Harold Gleim, Sr., Donald Gleim, and William Gleim; and 2 sisters, Eleanor Allamon and Esther Cousins.
A celebration of Joe’s life will be held Wednesday, November 7, 2012, at 12:30 PM in The Grace United Methodist Church, 433 East Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. John A. Schaefer, his pastor, officiating. Friends are invited to call on the family in the church on Wednesday from 11:30 AM until time of the services.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Hummelstown Food Bank, c/o Zion Lutheran Church, 100 West Main Street, Hummelstown, PA 17036.
