Married Henrietta Goetz on September 29, 1892 in Columbus, Bartholomew County, Indiana.

Most sources, including his obituary and his gravestone, show 1871 as his year of birth. However, Charles was enumerated in his father's household in the 1870 census which reported him as being 5 months old at the time of the census.

Services Planned Friday For Retired Farmer

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Vandivier funeral home for Charles Wirey, 76, who died at his home on Morton Street at 12:05 a.m. Thursday.

The Rev. de Gafferely of Nashville will be in charge of the rites. Burial will be made in Greenlawn cemetery. Friends may call at the Vandivier funeral home Friday afternoon or evening or Saturday before the funeral.

Mr. Wirey was born Dec. 27, 1871, in Brown County, the son of John and Elizabeth Wirey. On Sept. 29, 1892, he married Henrietta Goetz. Seven children were born to this union.

A farmer, Mr. Wirey and his family moved to Johnson County in 1919 from Bartholomew County, where he had resided since 1902.

He was a member of the Grace Methodist Church, and at one time affiliated with the Red Men's lodge.

Survivors include the widow; a brother, William Wirey of Edinburg; three sons, Harold Wirey of Edinburg; James Wirey of Indianapolis, and Lester Wirey of Franklin; four daughters, Mrs. C. B. McKay, Mrs. Arthur Miller, and Mrs. Bruce Burton, Columbus, and Mrs. Neal Allen of Franklin; twelve grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.

FATHER DIES AT FRANKLIN

Charles Wirey, 55, father of Mrs. C. B. McKay, Mrs. Arthur Miller and Mrs. Bruce Burton of this city, died at 12:05 o'clock this morning at his home in Franklin.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Vandivier funeral home in Franklin, conducted by the Rev. J. E. deGafferelly of Nashville. Burial will be made at Greenlawn cemetery in Franklin.

Mr. Wirey was born Dec. 27, 1871, the son of John and Elizabeth Wirey, and was married to Henrietta Goetz on Sept. 29, 1892.

Besides the widow and the three daughters here, he is survived by four other children: Harold Wirey of Edinburg, James Wirey of Indianapolis, Mrs. Neal Allen and Lester Wirey of Franklin; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and a brother, William Wirey of Edinburg.

He was a member of the Methodist church.

Charles Wirey Dies in Franklin

Charles Wirey of Franklin, father of Harold Wirey and brother to William Wirey of Edinburg, died last night at the age of 76, after a long illness. He had lived in Franklin for many years coming from the New Bethel community in Brown County. He had many friends and relatives in Edinburg.

Funeral services will be held at the Vandivier Funeral Home Saturday afternoon at 2:00 with Reverend Gassereley of Nashville, Indiana, officiating. Calling hours are Friday afternoon and evening and any time Saturday. Burial will be made in Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.

Surviving are the widow, Henrietta Goetz Wirey, and seven children: Harold Wirey of Edinburg; Mrs. C.P. McKay, Mrs. Arthur Miller, and Mrs. Brice Burton of Columbus, James Wirey of Indianapolis; Mrs. Neal Allen and Lester Wirey of Franklin; twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
