Samuel C. Alexander was the ninth child born to John S. Alexander and Mary Polly Simpson Alexander in the Fancy Prairie area of Illinois. He was an early President of Cantrall Cemetery Association and was an author of the original plat for the cemetery. Samuel married Amanda E. Hall and lived in Ford County in 1876 according to the book "Early Settlers of Sangamon County" by J.C. Power.
