Born in the village / hamlet of Fourdan, he was the fourth child born to his parents. He arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia Canada on April 13, 1906 with his mother (Marie Mathurine, née Le Bouleh, 1864 - 1907) and five siblings aboard the SS Laurentian. They came to join their father, Joseph Dondo (1862 - 1923), who had preceded them a year earlier.
The family settled initially in the area of Sainte-Rose-du-Lac / Makinak / Ochre River, near Dauphin, Manitoba.
Married on April 27, 1937, in Fisher Branch, with his wife, and now living in the Fisher Branch area, and while he was alive, the couple were parents to a large blended family that consisted of:
- the 10 children of Rose's eldest sister, Georgianna (1904 - 1938)
- their own two daughters
