George Washington Hake was the son of Daniel Hake Jr. and Caroline Hobbler Hake. His paternal grandparents were Daniel Hake Sr. and Sarah Elizabeth Ilgenfritz Hake George was a dairy farmer.

George married Margaret "Maggie" Christians, on 5 September 1875, in Ft. Atkinson. Margaret was the daughter of William Christians and Barbara Kispert Christians.

George and Maggie renewed their wedding vows on 5 September 1925 at the celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary.

Margaret Christians was born on 6 February 1858, in Jefferson. She died a stroke, on 16 January 1934, in the home of her daughter, in Whitewater. She is buried in the Rock River Cemetery.
