Darwin Hake was the son of Daniel Hake Jr. and Caroline Hobble Hake. He was the grandson of Daniel Hake Sr. and Sarah Elizabeth Ilgenfritz Hake He died in 1912, at the age of 49 years, 5 months and 18 days.

Darwin married Ida Edith Streeter on 24 December 1887, in Jefferson County. Ida was born in September of 1870, in Wisconsin. She died on 22 November 1948, in Modesto, Stanislaus County, California. She is buried in the Evergreen Cemetery. Ida was the daughter of Peter Streeter and Anna Gertie Kniffle Streeter. They were born in Germany.
