Reverend Emanuel Hake was the son of Daniel Hake and Sarah Elizabeth Ilgenfritz. His maternal grandparents were Johann Martin Ilgenfritz and Cartharine Barbara Schartel. Reverend Hake's paternal grandparents were John Frederick Hake and Catherine Crone. He was a farmer and a minister.

Emanuel first married Jane Elizabeth McConnel, on 12 July 1839, in Trumbull County, Ohio. Jane was born on 29 September 1822, in Pennsylvania. She died on 10 November 1866, in Jefferson, and is buried in the Rock River Cemetery.

Emanuel's second wife was Marie Catherine Eversohl. Marie was born on 21 August 1838, in Feschingen, Saarbrucken, Germany and died 15 September 1914, at Oakland, Jefferson County, Wisconsin, in the home of her niece, Mrs. Fred Huppert. Marie married Reverend Hake, in 1873. Their daughter was Cora Jane Hake.
