George Hake was the son of Daniel Hake and Sarah Elizabeth "Sally" Ilgenfritz. His paternal grandparents were John Frederick Hake and Catherina Crone.

George married his first cousin, Sarah "Sally" Hake on 10 August 1843 in Warren, Trumbull County, Ohio. Sarah Hake was the daughter of John Philip Hake and Sarah Salome Schneider.

In 1850 George, Sarah and their family were living in Jefferson. Living close by were George's brothers, David Emanuel, Frederick and William and their families. Also living close by was his father, Daniel Hake Sr. In 1880 George and Sarah Hake was living Jefferson near their oldest daughter, Kasiah and her husband George Hohenstein.

According to the federal census, in 1900 George, age 78 and Sarah age 75, married for 40 years were living with their son George Hake Jr. and his family in Jefferson.

George and Sarah were members of the Evangelical Church of Jefferson, Wisconsin. George was a farmer.
