Philip Hake was the son of Daniel Hake Sr. and Mary McConnel Hake. His paternal grandparents were Frederick Hake and Catherine Crone Hake. Ohio. Philip died in the home of his daughter, Flora Schlickenmaier.

Philip married Margaretha "Margaret" Frank on 11 December 1854. Margaretha Frank was born on 21 September 1836, in Prussia. She died on 20 November 1888, in Jefferson and is buried in the Rock River Cemetery. She was the daughter of John and Barbara Frank.

In 1870 Phillip, Margaret and their children, Daniel, Miranda and Flora were living in Jefferson, Wisconsin. Phillip's father, Daniel was living with them.

The 1880 Federal Census for Jefferson, Jefferson County, Wisconsin, lists a Philip Hake, born in about 1835, living with his wife Maggie who was born in about 1835, in Bavaria. Also listed is Daniel Hake Sr., age 98, born in Pennsylvania. Daniel Hake Sr.
