"Howard D. Abbott, Local Carpenter, Dies in Binghamton
Howard D. Abbott of 21 Maple Ave. died last night (Nov. 28, 1969) in Binghamton after an illness of two years.
He was the son of the late Albert Addison and Sara King Abbott and was born June 19, 1891, in Case, N.Y.
On Jan. 20, 1915, he was married to Hazel Ripley, who died in 1959.
Survivors include four children, Otho C. Abbott, of Orlando, Fla., Bruce Abbott of Greensboro, N.C., Mrs. John (Sylvia) Bowman Jr. of Winter Park, Fla., and Mrs. William (Beth) Pestell of Auburn; one brother, Leon A. Abbott of Auburn; six grandchildren, and several nieces.
He had lived in Cortland for the past 45 years, coming from Otisco. He was a well-known carpenter in the area. Mr. Abbott was a member of the First Congregational Church of Cortland, Dads of Foreign War Veterans and the Men's Club of the First Congregational Church.
Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. with committal services at the Bush Funeral home, the Rev. Richard A. Ruof, pastor of the First Congregational Church officiating. Interment will be in the Amber Cemetery.
Friends may call Sunday at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m."
