EULOGY ON MILTON L. ABBOTT.

At the Crouse Irving Hospital, after a short illness, occurred the death of Milton L Abbott on Saturday, November 12, 1949. He was a life long resident of Otisco, having been born July 21, 1876, at the Abbott Homestead at Maple Grove, which property he purchased a few years after his marriage with Carrie M. Miller, he being of the fourth generation of the Abbott family to own this farm property..

The news of his death came as a great surprise to those who had known him. His kindly cheerful and manly was had endeared him to many who feel very keenly his loss. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the afflicted wife and children. They have suffered an irreparable loss. “Millie” as he was familiarly known, was faithful to every trust committed to him. He was a good citizen, an excellent neighbor and a loyal friend. He was a member of the Milton Grove Methodist Church. Milton was the oldest of the family of nine children of the late Addison and Sara King Abbott, eight of whom reached mature years..

Milton and Carrie M Miller were married August 18, 1904 at her home where they have since made their home and raised their family of six children, Albert M., of Tully; Mrs. Bessie Swayze of Otisco; Mrs. Mildred Weller of Weedsport; Donald M., deceased, 1931; Wilson C., of Tully; and Vernon L., of Otisco, who has for the past few years worked his father’s farm. Besides his wife and his five children, he is survived by five brothers; Frank of S. Onondaga, Ethelbert K. of Pleasant Valley, Leon A. of Otisco, Howard D. of Cortland, Clifford A., of Otisco and one sister, Mrs. John F. Burt, Taunton, N.Y.; thirteen grandchildren and several nieces and nephews..

A large gathering of friend and relatives paid their last respects to his memory by attending the funeral held Tuesday, Nov. 15th at the home. The Rev. Harry Palmeter officiated with Hartwell of Tully in charge. The floral tributes were many and extremely beautiful, attesting the esteem in which the deceased was held by his friends and neighbors. Interment was made in Maple Grove cemetery..
