Funeral services were held at New Hope yesterday for James Daniel Kilgore, who was shot and killed by his brother-in-law at the former's home in Wise, VA, Saturday. According to an employee at the Butler Brothers Funeral Home, Kilgore, 28, a World War II veteran, was shot twice in the head by his brother-in-law, whose name was Bates. Bates then shot himself in the head, the informant said. He said Bates and Kilgore had no disagreement, but that Bates had suffered shell shock during the war.

Services for Mr. Kilgore were held at 3 p.m. from the Hebron Baptist Church with the Rev. S. Keel, Methodist minister, officiating. He was interred in Walker Cemetery with military honors.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Carrie Bates Kilgore of Wise, VA; a son, James Daniel Kilgore Jr.; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Izzie Kilgore of New Hope; four brothers, Colyn Dunn Kilgore, William Walker (Jack) Kilgore, Jim Walter Kilgore, and Donald Ray (Peewee) Kilgore, all of New Hope; and five sisters, Emily May Green, Edna Violet Ledbetter, Audrey Elizabeth Pendergrass, Lois Ball, and Rosa Nell Leak.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Marion Izzie Kilgore Jr. and Joe Randolph Kilgore; and one sister, Ruby Constance Kilgore.
