Albert E. Grote

CODORUS – Albert E. Grote, 93, of Codorus, died at 9:29 p.m. Tuesday at Hanover Hospital. He was the husband of the late Bertie M. (Albright) Grote.
The service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Jacob's (Stone) Church, Glenville RR 1. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Viewings will be 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Geiple Funeral Home Inc., 53 Main St., Glen Rock, and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Mr. Grote was born in Manheim Township. He was the son of the late Charles A. and Saranda J. (Sterner) Grote.
He retired in 1990 from Yorktowne Mutual Insurance Co., as director after more than 40 years of service, he was a sales clerk for several auctioneers in the Southern York County area, and previously farmed in the Manheim Township area.
He was a member of the Lutheran Congregation of St. Jacob's (Stone) Church, Church Choir, treasurer of Joint Council, secretary of the Sunday School, Advances Men's Bible Sunday School Class, Community Club, and served as trustee and past president of Stone Church Cemetery Association.
Mr. Grote was a member and former director of Codorus and Manheim Farmer's Association, and served as school director for the former Manheim Township School Board. He served as the last Burgess, and the first mayor of Jefferson Borough, and was a life member of the Jefferson Fire Company.
Mr. Grote is survived by two sons, Albert Nevin Grote of Hampstead, Md., and Donald E. Grote of Hanover; a daughter, Julian S. Grote of Codorus; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Officiating at the service will be his pastor, the Rev. Richard C. Weaver, assisted by the Rev. George O. Butz, pastor of United Church of Christ Congregation of St. Jacob's (Stone) Church.
