His father passed away in 1917 but David continued on the farm with his mother. The original home being burned by fire in 1913, but the 'new' house is still on the property in 2020.
After his mother passed away David inherited the home and also another block on land. David married Lydia Ann Malcolm in 1895. After marriage they moved to Lydia's family property "Great Heart" at Comaum where they carried on farming a mixture of sheep, cattle and cropping.
When they would go to Penola for supplies they would set off in a buggy with their horses Glen & Rainbow. Often they would stay over night with David's sister Martha at the family farm 'Sprinfields' at Monbulla. Eventually they purchased a small car to take the trip in. They had 2 children but sadly their first born was stillborn (gender was never handed down the generations) and their second child David only survived a few hours.
David purchased a property at Monbulla (opposite the School) and by 1950 he had retired to this home, having sold the Comaum farm to their nephew Shaw Malcolm.
His health had been a concern for some period of time and when he became ill he was in hospital for 3 weeks before he sadly passed away from a coronary occlusion just after Christmas in 1950.
He was a much loved and respected person, a member of the Presbyterian Church and also the Foresters Lodge.
