Eldora passed away peacefully at home on March 28, 2012. On August 31, 1921 she was born in Ulen, Minnesota, the fourth child of Josie and Liaf Klemetson.
She is survived by her loving husband of almost 70 years, Milton Swenson; her daughters Diane (John) Gilmore of Martinez and Shelley (Dick) Pile of Martinez; grandchildren Shari Curry of Fresno, Michael (Jennifer) Gile of Pleasant Hill, Joshua Pile of San Francisco, and Jenna Pile of Martinez; great-grandchildren Cassandra Campbell of Clovis, CA and Justin and Jeremy Gile of Pleasant Hill. Eldora was predeceased by her daughter Loree Swenson in 2008 and grandson Mark Gile in 1968.
Milton Swenson and Eldora Klemetson met at a dance in Hitterdal, Minnesota as teenagers. They had dated for five years when Milt joined the Army and was sent to California for training. Eldora came to California in 1942 and they were married on July 4, 1942 in Reno, Nevada. Eldora was employed during WWII by the Kaiser Shipyards in Richmond, CA. She was a burner, helping in the construction of Liberty ships. After the war, Eldora was a homemaker, and is also fondly remembered as 'Dorie' by the many families she helped raise over the years as a childcare provider.
She and Milt raised their family in Richmond for over 20 years before moving to Concord in 1969. They have been members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Concord for 43 years.
An Open House for family and friends celebrating Eldora’s life was held on Sunday, April 15, at Zio Fraedo’s, Pleasant Hill, CA.
Interment was October 23, 2017 at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you contribute to a charity or cause of your choice.
Oakmont Memorial Park and Mortuary assisted the family.
