Hello Reader. I am first and foremost a follower of the Jesus of the Bible: the Messiah, the Christ, the Creator, the "only begotten Son" - I love Him because He first loved me and it was by His death for me on the cross that I have hope past the grave!
I was widowed fairly young, and have four grown kids and three perfect kid-in-laws, plus eight adorable, brilliant, charming, and sweet grandchildren! - and I'm not even prejudiced! :) When I'm not playing with them, I like to study the Bible, quilt, read great books, hike, backpack, travel, garden, and play board games. I am also a long-time "spits & furts" genealogist. And I enjoy volunteering for FindAGrave.
Thanks to my sister RhondaJo, who not only laid the foundations of my genealogy research, but who has encouraged me to do F.A.G. Oddly, I began to participate only a few months before my strong healthy husband of over 35 years collapsed and died without warning or illness. As a new widow, I enjoy FindAGrave as something I can do on sleepless nights, "paying it forward" to future generations and strangers. I find cemeteries places of serenity and sobriety, but also of hope.
My primary function in FaG is taking photos of local markers, especially at the National Cemetery near me. When I fulfill a request I take pix of as many extra stones as I have the back and time for. Usually it turns out there is a memorial already up, but on occasion I need to create a memorial, so if you see that I am managing your family or friend, please ask. It's my hope and goal that every site I put up will go to a family member or friend. I welcome edits, additions, and corrections to my memorials. You may use my photos.
Through the loss of my own husband and parents, I've realized that these memorials are the only lasting memorial place many people will ever have, and the only sight of the marker many will ever get. So I hope I and other photographers take time to gently clean up the grave site: whisk away leaves, wipe off bird poop, trim the grass from the edges, take a photo of the back of upright stones, and close-ups of details. Make note of the inscriptions, especially the small, fading ones. Then please, please, send a note via the edit button to the manager of the site with any new info gleaned from the marker. Thank you!
I am willing to share what info I have on my family lines if I can help anyone. The lines I am especially interested in include:
Anderson/Peterson, Ashlin, Blackketter, Brady, Broome, Causey, Clary, Combs, Cowart, Freeman, Gentry, Groseclose, Humphries, Joiner, Kegans, McVey, Pate, Ring, Sorbello, Spangler, Ward, & Wells.
If you would like to read my husband's memorial, and leave flowers at his site, his memorial is #60229291 - Dale Sorbello.
If you would like to contact me off the public wall, I can be emailed at ksorbello at hotmail dot com.
