Lorraine Hardesty-Davis, 96, of Augusta, passed away Tuesday September 19, 2017 in Eau Claire.
R. Lorraine Pettis was born Oct. 27, 1920 in Fairchild, WI, the second of six children born to Floyd and Margaret (Whitcomb) Pettis. She attended Pettisville School grades 1 through 8 and graduated from Fairchild High School in 1938. She also attended Eau Claire Teachers' College and later the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire where she received her Bachelors Degree in Teaching. Lorraine began her teaching career in 1940. She taught rural schools (grades 1-8) in Eau Claire County for four years. She then took a job in Altoona where for two years she taught 5th and 6th grade.Her final employment was with the Augusta School District where she taught 4th grade for 34 years, teaching a total of 40 years before retiring. On January 3, 1948 Lorraine was united in marriage to Lyal Hardesty and the couple lived all their married life in Augusta. After Lyal passed away on March 19, 2001 she continued to live in Augusta. On April 29, 2003 she married Virgil Davis, her childhood sweetheart who had returned to the area after living nearly 50 years in California. Lorraine always enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, listening to music from the 1940s through the 1960s, and going for rides in the countryside. She had been a member of the Augusta American Legion Auxiliary Unit 291.
Lorraine is survived by her sisters, Phyllis Pettis and Sylvia Bertrang both of Eau Claire, many nieces, nephews, cousins and long time friends, Damon and Barbara LaRose of Augusta and their family.
In addition to her husbands, Lyal and Virgil; she was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Paul and Russell Pettis; sister Dorothy Heinemann; sister-in-law, Ella (Rimling) Pettis; and brother-in-law, Bill Heinemann. A visitation will be held Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta.
Funeral service will be private with burial in the West Lawn Cemetery in Augusta.
