Ardath Elaine (Hagerman) Bye, aged 89 years, 20 days, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 24, 2017, at Saint Joseph's Villa of David City, Nebraska. From early childhood, she was called by her middle name "Elaine".

Known as the quiet thinker, Elaine loved her family, reading, cross stitching, photography, painting, word search puzzles, sewing, genealogy, and sports. Throughout her life, Elaine was very active in church ministries, including deaconess, teaching children, church nursery, Pioneer Girls, and leading Bible studies. During the years her husband served as a pastor, she was actively involved in his ministry.

Elaine, the 5th of seven surviving children born to Howard Frederick & Helen Mae (Watson) Hagerman, was born February 4, 1928, on the family farm at Lakefield Township, Saginaw County, Michigan. During the Great Depression, the family moved to Three Rivers, Michigan, where Elaine graduated from Three Rivers High School in 1946.

Elaine attended Omaha Bible Institute (OBI) at Omaha, Nebraska, where she graduated in 1949; while there, she met her future husband, Walter Odell Bye, also a student at OBI. On August 4, 1950, she and Walter were married at the United Brethren Church in Seward, Nebraska. The couple moved to Three Rivers, Michigan, which is where they raised their four children: Judy, Paul, Tim, and Joye.

After her husband's retirement, Walter & Elaine moved to Hastings, Nebraska, where Walter served as a chaplain at Good Samaritan Retirement Village. Elaine enjoyed teaching Bible classes and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are her daughters, Judith (Carroll) Plisek of David City, Nebraska, and Joye (Daniel) Briggs of Three Rivers, Michigan; eight grandchildren, Ryan (Kathy) Plisek, Craig Plisek, Joel (Mary) Plisek, Brendan (Stephanie) Plisek, Rachel (Luke) Harper, David (Daphne) Bye, Chelsea (Steven) Hypes, and Jennifer Briggs; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Hagerman; one brother, Robert Hagerman; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
