Paul was raised in Three Rivers, Michigan, graduating from Three Rivers High School in 1973. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1973. He served two tours of duty in West Germany as well as stateside before his discharge in 1983 at the rank of Sergeant E-5; later Paul joined the U.S. Army Reserves. Following Operation Desert Storm, Paul was sent sent to the Middle East where he participated in the U.S. Army's military cleanup efforts. After returing from overseas, Paul relocated to the Denver (Colorado) area where he resided until his death. Paul worked in the drug and alcohol abuse treatment field. Just prior to his death, Paul graduated from Argosy University with a Bachelor's degree.
Paul is survived by his mother and two sisters, Judith Plisek and Joye Briggs. He was preceded in death by his father Walter Odell Bye (1921-2008) and his brother Timothy Lee Bye (1955-2008).
