Obituary from The Salt Lake Tribune (Salt Lake City, UT) - Sunday, November 3, 2002:

MIDWAY, UT - David Probst, age 87, passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2002 in Provo, Utah due to natural causes.

Born Jan. 15, 1915 in Midway, Utah the son of John Ulrich and Susannah Gertsch Probst. Dave graduated from Wasatch High School and was a life-long resident of Midway.

Married Vivienne Stevens June 26, 1940 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and spent their honeymoon on Bonanza Flat herding sheep in a covered wagon.

Because of the need for wool during the war time Dave's work as a sheepman exempted him from serving in the U.S. Military. Being a rancher meant that most of his hobbies and interests involved working on the ranch. Mending fences, shearing sheep, and riding herd were some of his favorite pastimes. Give him some music and a good dog and he was a happy man. He was the last sheepman to ship sheep by railway out of Wasatch County. He was also a member of the Utah Woolgrowers Association, and the Utah Farm Bureau Federation. Dave was an Elder in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having served in the Young Mens Presidency.

Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Vivienne of Midway; five children, LaWana (Bob) Lasher of Sunburst, MT; David Lee (Sandi) of Heber City; Hal V. (Glenda) of Bear River; Neil Pete (Peggy) of Heber City; Jolene (Jerry) Turner of Absarokee, MT; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; brother Owen Probst of Midway; and sister Geneva Cook of Cedar Fort. Preceded in death by daughter Shere Wiley, grandson Scott Bradley, two granddaughters Jessica and Heather Lyn Probst, five brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 4, 2002 - noon in the Midway LDS 2nd Ward, 250 East 200 South, Midway. Friends may call on Monday from 10:30 - 11:45 a.m. prior to the services at the LDS Church. Interment will be in the Midway Cemetery. Arrangements in the care of Olpin-Hoopes Funeral Home.
