Leah Probst Godfrey, 79, died February 23, 1992 at her home in Provo, Utah.
She was born march 16, 1912 in Midway, Utah, a daughter of John Ulrech and Susanna Gertsch Probst. She married Arthur J. Godfrey Feb. 17, 1933 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She received her education in Midway Elementary School, Wasatch high School, Utah State University (Elementary Education), California Polytechnic University (Life Diploma Elementary Education).
She taught first grade for 20 years in San Luis Obispo city schools. She was offered responsibility of Supervisor of Elementary Education at the University, but declined, stating she preferred to remain with the children.
She was an active life member of the LDS church. She assisted her husband in the Branch Presidency of the San Luis Obispo Branch for seven years, and in the Stake Presidency, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Branch for 18 years. She assisted her husband, who was Stake patriarch 20 years, she was also assistant matron, Los Angeles, LDS Temple five years, and an ordinance worker in the Provo Temple. President Joseph Fielding Smith, Harold B. Lee, Spencer W. Kimball, Ezra Taft Benson, and all the apostles during those years, were guests in her home.
She was a member of the University Women and Delta Kappa Gamma.
She has lived in Midway, Murray, Utah, Colusa, San Luis Obispo, and Los Angeles, California and Provo, Utah.
She is survived by her husband, Arthur of Provo; a son, A. Dale Godfrey, El Cajon, Calif; five grandchildren; two brothers and three sisters, Owen Probst, David Probst, Laura P. Rex, and Geneva Cook.
Interment, Elysian Burial Gardens.
