The Rev. Gerard C. Stein, 84, of 106 Arlington Ave. in the Highfield area of Butler died today at the Sunnyview Nursing Home. Born Aug. 17, 1918, in Butler, he was a son of John and Mary McGuire Stein. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a master sergeant on May 31, 1961, having served more than 20 years. He was a World War II veteran and was a life member of the VFW Post 249 in Butler. Following his military service, he was an elementary school English and science teacher in the Butler School District for 18 years. The Rev. Stein was ordained deacon for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh on June 8, 1974, with assignment at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler. He is survived by two sons, Gerald Stein of Butler and Thomas Stein of Michigan; a daughter, Catherine McDonnell of Butler; three brothers, Gerard and Francis Stein, both of Butler, and Charles Stein of McKeesport; a sister, Mary Loutzenhiser of Butler; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. STEIN - Friends of the Rev. Gerald Stein, who died Thursday, July 31, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, 201 E. Cunningham St. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery. St. Paul's Guild and Christian Mothers will meet at 9:40 a.m. Saturday at the church to recite the Rosary.
