Obiturary of Mathilda Hanson

Mathilda Sophie Hanson was born September 5th, 1878 in Adams Townshp and was baptized in the Little Cedar Lutheran Church by Rev. B. B. Gjeldaker, in 1893 she was confirmed in this same church by J. Muller Eggen, and has been a steadfast and loyal member ever since.

In the year of 1880 she moved to Marshall Township with her parents Bernt and Kjersti Hanson, where she resided until her death, Sept. 22, 1942 at the age of 64 year and 17 days.

Mathilda devoted most of her time for the care of her aged parents, until her mother passed away in March of 1940. In the following May she was stricken ill, after which she lost the use of her left hand. She was able to be up and about until she was taken ill on Sunday from which she never recovered.

Mathilda's chief interest centered in her home and was often seen amongst her flowers which were very beautiful.

In the year of 1930 Mathilda and her brother Oscar bought the home farm where they worked side by side. After her first illness, when she was not able to do much work, she was seen reading the word of God in whom she put all her faith.

She leaves to mourn her loss, her aged father who is 90 years old, 4 brothers, Oscar and Benjamin at home, Chris, of Adams and Harry of Lyle. 2 sisters (Clara) Mrs. Peter Finkelson, of Adams and (Gena) Mrs. John Ellingson of Bothell, Washington and a host of relatives and friends.

Her mother, three sisters and one brother preceded her in death.

Blessed be her memory.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, 1:00 0'clock from the home and 2:00 O'Clock from Little Cedar Church. Rev. Alfred Breivik Officiating. Special music was furnished by Mrs. Lawrence Halverson and Mrs. Nordeen Torgerson who sang two very appropriate duets. Many memorial wreaths were given in her memory.

Her body was laid to rest in Little Cedar Cemetery.

The pall-bearers were Messrs. Donald Adams, Harry Finkelson, William Finkelson, Raymond Finkelson, Bernie Hanson and Archie Hanson.

The out of town relatives present at the funeral were: Mrs. Clarence Adams and son Donald of St. Paul, Minnesota, Mr. and Mrs William Finkelson of Austin, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Henry Erie and family, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Erie, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Erie of LeRoy, Minn. and Christ and Carl Erie of LeRoy.
