I am not sure where this Obituary came from. It was in my Dad's things and the clipping was cut out and laminated. Not sure whether his name is spelled Bernt or Berent. Some times it is spelled Berndt. Most info I have it is spelled Berent.

Bernt M. Hanson was born June 7, 1852 at Havland, Bommela, Norway of Parents Bernard and Mikaline Hanson. he moved with his parent to Bergan, Norway when he was 4 years old. In 1864 the family emigrated to America, spending 7 weeks and 2 days on the Atlantic Ocean between Bergan and Quebec. From Quebec the family moved to Chicago and then Calmer, Iowa. In 1865 they returned to Chicago where Mr. Hanson was confirmed in the Lutheran faith By Rev. Jens Krah, April 8, 1866. Shortlly after his confirmation the family came back to Calmer, Iowa and lived there a short time before coming to Adams. They finally settled on a farm 5 miles northwest of Adams, which remained his permanent home till the time of his death.

On May 26, 1874 he was united in marriage to Kjersti Olson Erie at the Lutheran parsonage in Austin, Minn., by Rev. P. J. Ostby. This union was blessed with 11 children, 6 of whom preceded him in death. Three died at and early age and Michael in 1940. Mathilda in 1942 and Benjamin in 1944.

Mr. Hanson always loved his home and was devoted to his familly. Mr. and Mrs Hanson had the privilege of celebating their 65th wedding anniversary in 1939 on the home place. His wife preceded him in death 5 years ago.

In the passing of Mr. Hanson the community has lost one of its pioneers. He was one of the old settlers in the community who experienced the hardships of pioneer days.

Mr. Hanson has enjoyed good health till about 5 years ago when on account of old age he began to fail. He passed away peacefully at 9:20 Thursday evening. July 12th at the remarkable age of 93 years, 1 month and 5 days.

He leaves to mourn his passing, 3 sons Christian and Oscar of Adams, Harry of Austin, 2 daughters (Clara) Mrs. Peter Finkleson of Adams, (Gina), Mrs. John Ellingson of Ambrose, North Dakota.
