Dooley Edgar Palmer, Jr., son of Dooley Edgar and Leslie O’Dell Palmer, was born May 27, 1917, in Lebanon, Missouri. He departed this life Monday, November 7, 2016, in Mercy Hospital, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of ninety-nine years, five months, and ten days.

On August 21, 1937, he was united in marriage to Eleanor Novella Turner, and to this union two sons were born.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eleanor, on December 5, 2015; a son, Conrad Palmer, in 2003; three brothers, Roy, Hugh, and Lloyd Palmer; and seven sisters, Eppah Luthy, Hester Grace, Neva Smith, Cleva Davis, Nola Gadd, Naomi Edwards, and Jessie Snow.

Dooley is survived by a son, Pat Palmer, and his wife, Shirley, of Lebanon, Missouri; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Palmer, of Lebanon, Missouri; five grandchildren, Stephen, Tammy, Amanda, Dennis, and Misty; eleven great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

He was raised in the Russ community, where his parents operated the Russ Store. He graduated from Lebanon High School in the Class of 1935, and then attended Missouri S & T University in Rolla, Missouri for one year. He taught school and worked as a mail carrier for a few years. He and Eleanor made their home on their farm near Lebanon, and lovingly raised their sons. In 1951, Dooley opened Palmer Motor and Implement Company in Lebanon, and continued in that endeavor for fifty-two years. He also liked working on the farm where he raised Angus cattle, and enjoyed life on the farm.

Dooley was a longtime member of White Oak Pond Cumberland Presbyterian Church and was involved in all phases of church work, including being a Sunday school teacher for a number of years.

He enjoyed being outdoors and liked to go quail hunting. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was a very friendly man and considered his customers his friends.

Dooley was a loving father, grandfather, uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and know that his family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories he made for them during his ninety-nine years.
