Heaven welcomed Agetha M. Shatto Smeigh, 94, of Spring Road, Shermans Dale, late Saturday, June 18, 2016 at Vibra Life Nursing Home, Mechanicsburg. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Born September 24, 1921 in Shermans Dale she was the last surviving of 7 children born to Elmer Levi Shatto Sr. and Lillie (Hicks) Shatto.
Mrs. Smeigh was a feisty and wonderful lady. She was still the treasurer of Shermans Dale Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, having held that position for more than 60 years. She was a member of Shermans Dale United Methodist Church and Ladies Aid Society. She was a "Phillies" fan extraordinaire. She enjoyed everything! She had a positive "Can do" attitude that was contagious. She especially enjoyed gardening, cooking, and helping those who were in need.
She was the widow of Percy R. Smeigh (1992) and is survived by a son, Larry R. Smeigh and wife Sue of New Bloomfield. Two daughters, Wanda M. Sheaffer and husband Frank and Jo Ann (Joey) Shambaugh and husband Gary all of Shermans Dale. A foster daughter, that she loved as her own, Kimberly Santin and Husband Joe of Oklahoma. 8 grandchildren, Melinda McMillen, Geoff Sheaffer and wife Becky, Jamie Shambaugh and wife Kathi, Corey Shambaugh and wife Jessica, Thomas Smeigh and wife Erin, Heather Stafford and husband Jim, Jason Smeigh, Lindsay Smeigh and companion Adam Flickinger. 3 foster grandchildren, Derek, Kira and Kalie. 15 great grandchildren and 3 foster great grandchildren, her sister-in-law, Mary Louise Shatto, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Percy, she was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Lester, Richard and Elmer Shatto. 3 sisters, Alta Morrison, Erma Watson and Elva Lebo, and a great grandson, Tyler McMillen.
Services will be held at 11 Am on Thursday, June 23, 2016 in Shermans Dale United Methodist Church, 50 Windy Hill Road, Shermans Dale. Pastor Nancy Goff will officiate. Burial will be in Bloomfield Cemetery, New Bloomfield. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service.
