Daniel Bowman Acree was born about 1819 in Rutherford County Tennessee, the son of Beverly Dandridge Acree and Susannah Margaret Bowman. He was the namesake of his maternal grandfather, Daniel Bowman, a Patriot soldier during the American Revolution and member of the Electoral College that selected Andrew Jackson as U. S. President. Daniel B. Acree moved with his parents to Madison County Tennessee about 1822, and then on to the Lower Pine Hills community around Bayou D'Arbonne in what was then northwestern Ouachita Parish Louisiana about 1833. His father bought government land near modern Point in 1834. This region became southeastern Union Parish in March 1839.

Daniel Bowman Acree married on 25 January 1844 in Union Parish to Rachel Farmer, the daughter of early settler Mills Farmer and Susannah Wood. After his father's death, Daniel served as guardian for his younger orphaned siblings. He also managed the affairs of his brother-in-law, Joseph C. Hudson, who died in 1852. Daniel Acree continued farming his father's old plantation until his death in 1860.

It is believed that Daniel Bowman Acree is buried in the Acree Cemetery near his farm, although he has no marker. His widow lived thirty years after his death, living with her children.
