Charles Lewis Burrill, 84, of Rock Island, IL, died of congestive heart failure on Monday, March 7, 2016, at Rock Island Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Rock Island, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2016, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline, IL. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at National Cemetery at the Rock Island Arsenal. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Charles was born on October 10, 1931, in Corning, IA, the son of Elmer G. and Vera A. Heaton Burrill. He married Irma K. Carpenter on December 12, 1953, in Havana, IL. He was a veteran, having proudly served in the United States National Guard out of Aledo, IL, the United States Army, as well as the United States Air Force. After 26 years of dedicated service, he retired from his military career. Charles also worked as a drill press operator for J.I. Case. He was a lifetime member the Air Force Sergeants Association.

Charles was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, where he was active in various capacities over the years. Charles helped with several charitable organizations such as Pregnancy Resources, Freedom Ministry, and Youth Hope, a function of the Christian Friendliness Auxiliary. He was a member of the Hudson-Essex-Terraplane Club and a proud owner of a 1951 Hudson Pacemaker.

Survivors include his wife, Irma; sons, Donald Burrill, East Moline, IL, and David Burrill, Oakland, CA; 2 grandchildren, DeJay and Diana; 3 great grandchildren; brothers, Glen Burrill, Rock Island, IL, and Darrell (Marie) Aledo, IL; sister, Carrol Anderson, Coyne Center, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Duane; 2 sisters, Lucille DeWitt and Louella Fackler; 2 brothers, Loren Burrill and an infant brother.
