m. Frederick H. Travis {b.1870} of Peekskill, Champagne NY in the Deems Memorial Church 30 Jun 1908, New York City, New York

The Orillia Packet, June 11, 1908- A Fair Orillian who is Qualified to Plead Before US Supreme Court. The following two paragraphs from recent issues of New York papers have a special interest for Orillians. The first is from the New York Herald of June 2nd:-
Emulating in this respect the example of Belva Lockwood, first to take that course, Emma Helen Begg, of New York, was today admitted to practise before the Supreme Court of the United States. She may now appear before that tribunal to argue cases, make motions, and transact other business of which it has jurisdiction. With her and receiving the oath at the same time were Alexander and Roderick Begg. All three gave the business address of No. 220 Broadway.
The second item, which is supplementary to the first, is from the New York World of June 4th:-
Several days ago Miss E. Helen Begg and two of her brothers, Alexander and Roderick, went to Washington and were admitted to practise before the United States Supreme Court. When a World reporter called at the Begg residence, at No. 31 Irving place, today, he found this modern Portia arguing a case with the dressmaker. In a month Miss Begg will give up her prospects of a brilliant career at the bar and be sentenced by Judge Cupid. She will become the bride of an official of the American Express Company. Miss Helen Begg is the daughter of the late Alexander Begg, F.R.G.S., and Emily Maria Begg. Miss Begg was born in Orillia, Ontario, May 16th 1881. She studied law at New York University, was graduated with the degree of bachelor of laws in 1903, and admitted to practise in the same year. Miss Begg is the secretary of the Women’s Association of the Bar, and also of the 'New Yorkers.' She was the first woman delegate to the State Convention of the New York State Bar Association.
The Orillia Packet, July 23 1908- On the 30th ultimo, Miss Emma Helen Begg was married to Mr. Frederick H. Travis, son of Phoebe Travis, of Peekskill, NY in the Deems Memorial Church, New York. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Dr. A.D. Blackburn, of Charleston, SC, and was followed by a reception at Durvea’s ballroom at 200 West 72nd street. The bride, who was gowned in silk crepe, panne velvet and pearl trimmings, was attended by her sisters, Norah and Chrissie, in white organdie with lace and canary silk mull and brown fillet lace respectively, with hats to match. A unique feature of the occasion was the matter of fact way in which the little nephew, Brocket Tudhope, strewed the flowers in the pathway of the bride as she proceeded to the altar on the arm of her eldest brother, Alexander. He (Brocket) had gone from Orillia with his mother, Mrs. H.R. Tudhope, to be present at the ceremony. The ushers were the bride’s brothers Peter B. Begg, Ralph Ash Begg, and Colin Luke Begg, M.D., and Donald Cramer. Mr. Roderick Begg, another brother, was best man. In its notice of the wedding the Scottish-American says: There was a large attendance, and cordial wishes for the happiness and prosperity of the young couple were expressed. The bride is a daughter of Mrs. Alex Begg, of this city. Mrs. Begg’s daughters are famed for their great beauty. On April 27th (this year) Miss Grace Frances was married to Mr. Smith Donald Cramer, of Syracuse, NY and next month Miss Norah will be married to a leading lawyer of St. Louis. The bride is a daughter of the late Mr. Alexander Begg, F.R.G.S. of Caithness-shire, an accomplished scholar, litterateur, and author of the ”History of British Columbia.” For many years he was well known in Toronto and Orillia, Ontario.
