The Orillia Packet, Oct 26th, 1899- Misses Bertha and Norah Begg, trained nurses, have been spending their vacation with their parents here. They leave next week, Miss Bertha to practice at Paterson, New Jersey, and Miss Norah for the city of Mexico, where she has accepted a situation in the American hospital.
The Orillia Packet, May 10, 1923- MRS. T.C. HINCKLEY- Exceedingly sad and tragic were the circumstances surrounding the death of Mrs. Theodore C. Hinckley, of Mount Vernon, New York, daughter of the late Alexander Begg, and Mrs. Begg, of Orillia. On Monday of last week, she left her home to visit her friend, Mrs. F. C. Kemple, of New Rochelle, New York, formerly Miss Mabel Thomson, of Orillia. She did not arrive there, but Mrs. Kemple supposed something had prevented her paying the intended visit. It was not till……..with those of Mrs. Hinckley. She instituted inquires and was shocked to find her friend’s body lying in the morgue. It appears that Mrs. Hinckley was knocked down, and instantly killed, in attempting to cross a street. The motor driver was held on a charge of homicide as it is alleged that he was traveling at an excessive speed.
The body was brought to Orillia for interment, the funeral taking place on Monday morning, from the residence of Mr. H.R. Tudhope. The service was conducted by the Rev. N.H. McGillivray. The pallbearers were four of her brothers, Mr. H.R. Tudhope, and Mr. Brockett Tudhope. A service had been held previously at Mount Vernon, by the Rev. Dr. McKay.
Mrs. Hinckley was born in Orillia and spent her girlhood here. She was an exceptionally handsome and attractive woman. Her mother, who is in her eighty-third year, arrived in Orillia only a fortnight ago, to have the old home again fitted up for herself and daughter. She leaves six brothers, Robert Begg, of Calgary; Roderick, Peter, Alexander, Ralph, and Colin Begg, of New York, and three sisters: Mrs. Travis, of Chappaqua, New York, Mrs. Craymer, of New York, and Miss Chrissie Begg, of New York, all well known in Orillia, and for whom much sympathy is felt.
