Edmund “ED” Henry Lee lived life to the fullest.
Edmund Lee, 84, passed away peacefully Sunday December 20, 2015 in Philipsburg, MT after a long battle with cancer.

Probably before it was officially winter, since he said he was tired of the snow and cold.
Ed was born Oct 27, 1931 in Minnesota to Henry and Freida Lee. Ed had 7 seven brothers and 2 sisters. His brother Merl Lee still resides in MN.

His family lived in about 15 different cities while he grew up and some of them twice. He even went to school in Plum Creek where Laura Ingalls Wilder went to school but that was after she was there, so no claim to fame for that. But Ed would go on to his own fame.

He started working when he was 8 in a kitchen cleaning up and did other jobs while going to school through the 8th grade. After that the adventures grew.

He worked on assorted farms to help the family with finances and collect cars and motorcycles. Ed went to Butte, MT to work in the mines and then did a tour in the Army. He became a telephone lineman and communications technician (switchboard operator and messenger). After getting out of the Army he went back to the Butte mines.

While working in the mines he went on vacation and went to Minnesota, snatched up Albertha Brockopp the girl of his dreams, drove to Mason City, IA to get married (Oct 19, 1955) and then drove back to Butte, MT to continue working in the mines. While in Butte, his son and daughter, Mark and Debra Lee were born.

When there wasn’t as much work in the mines in 1959, Ed moved to Philipsburg, MT to work summers with the Forest Service constructing trails throughout the Pintler Wilderness Area. He did other odd jobs until he was full time at the Forest Service.
Jeffry Lee, son, was born in Philipsburg. A few years later, he went to work full time at the Anaconda Job Corps. He taught automotive mechanics, heavy equipment operations and dynamiting. He liked moving stuff quickly and had learned dynamiting in the mines. He enjoyed helping the young students and seeing them progress to full time jobs.

Ed retired in 1989 and enjoyed storytelling, helping others, motorcycle riding, fishing, helping others, hunting, doing small engine repairs, storytelling and driving in the mountains. Oh, did we say storytelling and helping others?

Ed always had some words of wisdom to pass along such as “The worst kind of riding beats the best kind of walking.”

Ed Lee will be missed by his wife Albertha Lee, his children Mark, Debra and Jeffry Lee, relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, Ed would have liked contributions be made to your local youth organizations.

A Celebration of Life will be held January 2, 2016; 1 pm to 4 pm at the Granite County Museum community room in Philipsburg, MT at the four way stop in the center of town.

Rest in Peace, oh good and faithful servant.
