VESTA -- Services for Kenneth Lee, 81, of Vesta will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hamilton-Birk Funeral Home in Marshall. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. today at the funeral home, with a 7 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue Saturday one hour prior to services.
He died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at Prairie View Health Care Center in Tracy.
He was born Aug. 26, 1920, in Herman to Henry and Frieda (Rhiem) Lee. He entered the U.S. Army in 1943. He was stationed in Germany during World War II. He received an Army Commendation Medal, a Bronze Star with an Oak Leaf Cluster, and various other ribbons. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He and Laura Willhite were married March 11, 1954, in Flandreau, S.D. He spent most of his life as a farm hand in southwest Minnesota until a farm accident forced him to retire in 1980. They lived in Vesta, where he attended the town's flag with honor and pride as an American veteran. He entered the Wabasso Healthcare Center in 1999 and moved to Prairie View Health Care Center in Tracy in 2001. He enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing cards, fishing and working.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Sherri Wessels of Spring Valley, Mary Lee Shultz of Greeley, Colo., and Barbara Wilhite Figar of Thedford, Neb.; two sons, Robert Willhite of Slayton and Allan Willhite of New Richmond, Wis.; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; four brothers, Vernon and Merle of Marshall, Lyle of Slayton and Edmund of Philipsburg, Mont.; and a sister, Fern Harpstad of Blue Earth; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
