Carma Lenis Sutherland Thomas, age 91, of Blountville, Tenn., passed away on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at Grace Healthcare in Abingdon, Va. She was born October 3, 1924 in Dickenson County, Va., a daughter of the late William Dewey and Ailcy Fuller Sutherland.
Mrs. Thomas was a member of Blountville Christian Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Merle Fletcher and Tiny Vay Sutherland; and brothers, Omar, Gale, Roger, Maynard and Clayton Sutherland.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Beldon Thomas; daughter, Judy Lynn Calhoun and husband Kermit; son, Eddie Gilmer Thomas and wife Wanda; grandchildren, Carma E. Thomas, Tiffany Dawn Calhoun, Eddie G. Thomas Jr., and Heath Calhoun; great grandchildren, Taylor Nathaniel Thomas, Zachary Thomas, Landon and Keria Thomas, Mason, Brystal and Bailee Calhoun; sisters, Nina Rice and Carol Breeding; brothers, Adron Sutherland and Glenn Sutherland.
The funeral service for Mrs. Thomas will be held 7 p.m. Monday, November 9, 2015 in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Dwight Shaffer officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. prior to the service. The committal service will be held Tuesday 1 p.m. at Mountain Home National Cemetery in Johnson City, Tenn. The family would like to say a special thanks to Grace Healthcare, Marissa Gonzalez, Lois Whitaker and Dora Fields.
