Charles was one of fourteen children born to Edward and Carrie Clark Middleton in Bradenton, Florida. He spent most of his life in Bradenton, as a child and as a young man, he attended Wards' Temple A.M.E. Church. He later met and married Carrie Williams of Palmetto Florida. In 1941, he was the first person in Manatee County to volunteer for the U.S. Navy where he served as a gunner until 1944, after an invasion w/ the Japanese. After spending six months in the Naval hospital he came home to live. He received an honorable discharge from the Navy as a disabled veteran. He leaves to mourn his passing, a wife, nine brothers, four sisters, and a host of other relatives and sorrowing friends.
