Born the 13th child of 14 to Edward James and Carrie Clark Middleton on January 21, 1925 in Bradenton, Florida. Lloyd was a member of Wards Temple A. M.E. Church as a child and early adult.
Graduating from Lincoln H.S. located in Palmetto, Florida at the age of 16, Lloyd attended Clark College in Atlanta, GA as a pre-med major. Upon receiving a B.S. degree in Chemistry and mathematics, she began her career in education at Lincoln H.S. School in Gainesville, FL. She later taught mathematics at Lincoln Memorial H.S. school located in Palmetto FL. and Barringer H.S. located in Newark, N.J. Having received numerous fellowships and grants, she pursued her Master's degree at the Universities of Michigan and Rochester and Montclair State University.
She married in 1945 to the late Dagon Leon Garris, Sr. and together they bore two children, Dagon Leon, Jr. and Sonja Joi.
Those who will always mourn her passing and cherish the precious memories of her lifetime include: a son: Dagon L. Garris, Jr., a daughter: Sonja Garris-Taylor, two granddaughter's Kimberly and Keri and a host of relatives and friends.
