Katheryn Gaynelle Blanton Gryder, age 89, fell asleep in death due to complications of Alzheimer's disease on December 18, 2010 in Sugar Land.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Cornelius Gryder.
The daughter of William Franklin Blanton, of Blanton's Chapel, and Willie Adella Cobble Blanton Simmons of Denison, Katheryn, most affectionately known as Kay, was born November 8, 1921 in Savoy. Her brothers, John William Blanton, Robert Edward Blanton, Allen Mathis Blanton and John Ellis Brown all preceded her in death.
Kay is survived by her daughter, Sandra and husband Thomas H. Chapman, Jr., of Richmond; nieces, Alana Sue Blanton Raner of Fort Worth, Sharon Blanton and Becky Blanton of Denison, Kathy Blanton and Patricia Blanton of Fritch; nephews, Michael Blanton of Denison and Bobby Blanton of Azle; extended family, Robert C. Baker and wife, Sandy Baker of Sachse; grandson, Frank Baker and wife, Cindy Baker of Wylie and great-grandchildren, Luke and Ty Baker; granddaughter, Sarah Baker Sawai and husband, Kyle Sawai of Murphy and great-grandson, Kai Sawai.
Kay will be remembered for her energy, boundless generosity, creative intellect, life-long zest for learning, sincere interest in the well-being of others and passionate zeal to share with others the hope of God's Kingdom rule over the earth. She looked forward to the loving promise of Jesus Christ to resurrect all those "in the memorial tombs" to a paradise earth where "death will be no more."
A memorial service for Kay will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 1, 2011 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 15270 Huebner Rd., San Antonio, Texas 78231, with Donald Douglas officiating.
