Lt Colonel James J. Nielsen, 90, died Saturday August 8, 2009 at his residence in San Juan [TX].
Born November 13, 1918 to Severt and Nellie Nielsen on a homestead in Montana.
Lt. Col. Nielsen, was a US Army veteran having served in WWII, Korean Conflict and Vietnam.
He was a former member of Knights of Columbus and the Disabled American Veterans. He retired for Tierra Real Estate in Taft, Texas at the age of 80 and moved to the Valley.
Lt. Col. Nielsen is preceded in death by his parents, Severt and Nellie Nielsen; brothers, Fred, Kenny, Richard and Lavern Nielsen; and sister Nora Buck.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Maybe Nielsen; four daughters, Kathleen (Emmett) Kelly, Patricia (Jim) Hawley, Barbara Litsenburger and Amy Ingleston; four step-sons, Bill (Patsy) Maybe, Scott (Anita) Maybe, Jack Maybe and Todd (Peg) Maybe; four sisters, Lucile Plunket, Cora Santos, Wanda May and Pat Luff; three brothers, Everett, Tom and Eugene Nielsen; grandsons, Rob Litsenburger, Michael Hawley, Patrick, Kevin, Michael and Matthew Kelly; ten great-grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; 9 step-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan. Interment of his cremated remains will be held at a later date.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
