Funeral Friday for Anna Kellen
Mrs. William (Anna) Kellen, 91, died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 1981, at Floyd Valley Hospital, LeMars, Ia., after a brief illness.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at St. Mary's Catholic Church here. Rev. Richard Birdsall officiated, and burial was in the parish cemetery.
Mrs. Kellen, the former Anna Mairose, was born April 7, 1890, at rural Alton, Ia., the daughter of Bernard and Elizabeth (Hackmann) Mairose.
Her marriage to William Kellen took place Sept. 26, 1910, at Alton.
They farmed near Alton until retiring in 1939, when the couple moved to Remsen, Ia. Mrs. Kellen had resided at Happy Siesta nursing home since December 1980. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, and Catholic Daughters of America, all of Remsen.
Surviving are five sons, Vernon, Raymond, and Robert, all of Remsen, Victor of Alton, and Stanley of Conroe, Tex.; four daughters, Mrs. Nick (Dorothy) Wanderscheld and Mrs. Milo (Esther) Bohlke of Remsen, Mrs. Frances Wess of Fairmont, Minn., and Mrs. Ed (Evelyn) Harmon of Santa Monica, Calif.; 39 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; a brother, Bernard Mairose of LeMars; and two sisters, Mrs. Leonard (Ida) Scborg of Remsen and Mrs. Jack (Mary) Leichtieg of Sioux Falls, S. D.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William on Apr. 8, 1966; a son, William in infancy; two daughters, Mrs. Lee (Florence) Henrich and Mrs. John (Lillian) Gengler; two brothers, John and Henry Mairose; four sisters, Mrs. William (Elizabeth) Helssel, Mrs. Anthony (Catherine) Duster, Mrs. Frank (Rose) Lelckteig, and Mrs. Harm (Emma) Johnson; one granddaughter; and one great-grandson.
Pallbearers were Bob Gengler, Steve Wanderscheld, and Bill, Donald, Michael, and Ronald Kellen.
Lector at the funeral was Tim Bohlke.
The Fisch Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
